You will want to savor every sip of the spicy-sweet-tangy Jalapeño Margaritas from @memeinge

So this one time I decided to soak jalapeños in some tequila… and then I forgot about it. And so those jalapeños sat in my refrigerator marinating and infusing their heat into that tequila.

And then I remembered it when I found this recipe for Jalapeño Margaritas and decided they’d be perfect for my week of celebrating my 5th Anniversary of turning 21.

Uh but I did not think about how hot that tequila would be… In my defense, the other two jalapeños with said jalapeño {the one that sat in the tequila for weeks} were not at all spicy – like I could eat them raw and they almost tasted like a bell pepper.

I know, I know. Jalapeños differ in heat with each one…

Either way, my margs were a bit too spicy for my liking since I had super infused jalapeño tequila. But they were still really really good. Probably better than a regular margarita because I didn’t drink it very fast and savored each spicy-sweet-tangy sip.

You can buy jalapeño infused tequila or you can make your own {see below for tips – caution: do not soak for weeks} or you can just use regular tequila. Totally up to you.

Only other ingredients you need are limes because you really must use fresh lime juice, sweetener, orange liqueur (like Triple Sec, Cointreau, or Grand Marnier), a jalapeño, and some ice

For the sweetener I used agave syrup {make sure it’s light not dark}. You can just use plain sugar or simple syrup. Don’t go out and buy agave syrup just for this recipe if you don’t want to. Regular sugar will totally do the trick.

To infuse your tequila, you need only soak one sliced jalapeño in a cup of tequila. For each cup of tequila use one jalapeño. And don’t soak for weeks. I think a few hours will do. But like I said before, this is optional. You are still going to be using jalapeño to make these margaritas, so they’ll still be spicy.

And the only other thing you might want to know about these delicious sips is that you’ll need orange liqueur {like I said earlier}. You can be fancy and get a nice orange liqueur like Cointreau. Or you can be cheap frugal & super awesome and get something like Triple Sec. The liquor guy at Walmart {yeah, they sell liquor at Walmart in New Orleans!} told me that Triple Sec is totally ok to use in your margs and is normal and I wasn’t cheating if I didn’t get a $40 bottle of an orange liqueur that I’ll only use for margaritas and sangria.

Don’t you just love it when salespeople are honest & realistic and not trying to sell you the most expensive thing they have? Or maybe he felt bad for me because my basket was overflowing and I had a sad puppy dog face because I was about to spend a billion dollars since I had multiple bottles already in my arms. Yes, multiple. Wine, rum, vodka, and tequila.

What can I say? I ain’t messin’ around for my birthday drink week… And if you didn’t see the week’s earlier post, you must check out the Mojito Limeades {all-time fave}, Red Roosters {total crowd pleaser}, Berry Peach Sangria {greatest summertime sangria ever made}, and Piña Coladas {finally – a piña colada that isn’t 500 calories!}

Happy {almost} 5th Anniversary of my 21st birthday to me!!

Fun fact: you can make these in a pitcher to serve a crowd. Just increase the ingredients as needed and muddle in a pitcher.

Ingredients

  • 1/3 cup lime juice about 3 small limes
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 TBSP granulated sugar
  • 1 small jalapeño minced
  • 2 oz tequila jalapeño infused if desired
  • 1 oz orange liqueur
  • 1 TBSP sweetener agave syrup, sugar, simple syrup, etc.
  • 1 cup ice plus more for serving

Instructions

  • Rub the rim of two glasses with lime. Stir together salt and sugar, and dip the edge of the glass into the salt-sugar mixture. Set aside.
  • In a bowl or cup, muddle the jalapeño and 1/3 cup lime juice, so the jalapeño releases its flavor. Add the tequila, orange liqueur, sweetener, & ice. Shake or stir well. Add more lime juice or sweetener if needed.
  • Fill the glasses with ice and strain the margarita mixture into the glasses. Garnish with lime or jalapeño slices, if desired.
